In the late 1890's Claus Doscher discovered a new candy that was becoming popular in south France - Taffy. He invested in a new kettle and perfected his own recipe. After having success selling his taffy by the pound; he next introduced a taffy bar in a wrapper. He called his new candy bar - French Chew. The wrapper depicted a pleased candy eating kid, licking his lips which is still used today.
For the first 100 years French Chew was made in just 3 popular flavors: Vanilla, Chocolate and Strawberry. Today Banana has been added as well as seasonal flavors: Green Apple for Halloween and Peppermint for Christmas.
